A pending result means the sample is not yet complete and is still in process. Pending Legionella results are often the result of a sample being overgrown and needing additional treatment (heat and/or acid) to knock out background bacteria. Results can be pending on a report with multiple tests because of varying turnaround times. Some tests are completed faster than others. For some tests, additional work is required to identify a positive sample. This can create a pending result if additional time is needed for a correct identification.
